I'm pleased with this shot because it's a nice moment, but it also is an example of how talking with a subject for a little bit can really add depth to a simple photo.

I was thrilled to get a call from Sarah this year to photograph her and her family again. Such fun people! The children, Alex and Hannah, sent me home with a bag full of goodies - cookies and drawings and even a handmade dreidel magnet!
Hannah came to me at the end of the session and asked that I read her a book about wheels. We got comfy on the nearest plushy chair and I read to her about wheels on cars and bikes and more. On one page was a bike race and there were spectators. Three of the spectators stood with cameras and one had it hanging down from his neck. I told Hannah, "Here's a photographer who will never get work because he's not taking any pictures and the action is just flying by him!"

Her parents laughed.

Its been over a month since my wedding and after looking AGAIN at all of my wonderful pictures that you took for us, I find myself completely drawn back into every moment like it was happening all over again....its not the video that I keep coming back to, with all of its sound and movement, but your brilliant photography! It speaks for itself and has its own motion that makes me relive the day over and over in all of its magnificence!

Cydney photographed the birth of my second baby at my planned homebirth. She was like a fly on the wall; I hardly noticed that she was there. And she captured the moments so beautifully. I will treasure the photos she took forever. I should also mention that my labor was very long; she was at my house for 20 hours, but it shows her good character for being so patient. I whole-heartedly recommend her.

I have known CJ since he was three and I was twelve...and his babysitter. Cut to many years later and here I am shooting his wedding!
It was a beautiful event with lots of personal touches. CJ's sister Tori, who I also sat for, made one thousand paper cranes that were hung throughout. During the ceremony each of the guests held a stone which was then placed into a lovely open wood box for the couple to keep. The reception was held in a beautiful barn and at the end of the night a bonfire awaited.

I have known Amy quite a while. She is the ever-capable head of Stoneham TV where my mom hosts the cable access show The Total Woman.
Amy and I had been talking about getting together to photograph her and her family before the arrival of her twins Luke and Josh. Fortunately, we made it just in time with a week or so to spare!

Diane Arbusing, you ask? Yes, there is such a thing. I have decided that Arbusing is a verb, right here, right now, as I type this.

I cannot express how much I love these photos. They were taken at a "photo booth" at my friend Debby's wedding in California last weekend. Maybe I like it because I never have my picture taken. Maybe I love it because it's with her and I adore her. Maybe it's because I was her mentor when she was an intern at The Palm Beach Post seven years ago (yikes!) and we have remained friends ever since.

When she was an intern with the Post, she came over for a Halloween party after some crazy late-night shoot she had to do, because, well, she was the intern and sometimes as an intern you get stuck with that stuff. We were feeling silly and decided to take a goofy, serious photo (yes, I do see the paradox), which we both joked later, as I recall, that it looked like a twisted version of the already somewhat twisted shot by Diane Arbus of a set of twins looking straight at the camera. (That photo from seven years ago is at the bottom of this entry).

Skip forward seven years and Debby is getting married and here we are again, still dressed up but much more grown-up like (well, sort of).


At first we had a hard time pulling it together, of course.

Then we managed it.

Catherine had just celebrated her thirtieth birthday the day before, and friends and family came from all over, including England and Japan, to celebrate the union of these two.

Today I had a nice little photo shoot with the kids of a close friend of mine. We grew-up together and it's been fun watching her be a mom. A very good one at that! I photographed Ava last year, and this year, she was joined by her twin sisters, Sam and Addison, now five months old. They were troopers and Ava is always good for some comic relief (not that it was needed) with her hilarious facial expressions!

This past Saturday, Kate and Michael were married at St. Anthony's Chapel in Goucester, MA. The beautiful reception that followed took place at Ocean View Inn, also in Goucester. The weather called for rain but it managed to stay away long enough for us to get some pretty shots by the ocean. Shooting this wedding for Michael and Kate was so much fun; a scenic location, happy and friendly guests, and an excited and fun-loving couple! What more could a photog ask for?
